Elon Musk Threatens to Ban Apple Devices from His Companies if They Integrate OpenAI
Elon Musk declared on Monday that he would ban Apple devices from his companies if the iPhone manufacturer integrates OpenAI at the operating system level.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the billionaire stated that this would be unacceptable, as it would constitute a security breach.
Apple has announced a series of AI features for its applications and operating systems, as well as a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT technology into its devices.
The tech giant claimed to have designed the AI with confidentiality as a priority and would use a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing to power these features.
Musk also stated, "It's blatantly absurd that Apple isn't intelligent enough to develop its own AI, but somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security and privacy!"
Earlier in March, Musk had sued OpenAI, which he co-founded in 2015, as well as its CEO Sam Altman, alleging that they had abandoned the startup's initial mission to develop artificial intelligence for humanity's benefit, not for profit.
Furthermore, to challenge OpenAI and build an alternative to the viral chatbot ChatGPT, Musk has also founded his own startup, xAI, which was valued at $24 billion in its latest funding round, securing $6 billion in Series B financing.
