Dr. Héchmi Louzir Receives the Rank of Officer of the National Order of Merit

He has worked on neglected diseases such as rabies and leishmaniasis, and his expertise is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). During the COVID-19 crisis, he played a crucial role in the national health response and has been a strong advocate for scientific cooperation and health diplomacy.
Current Roles and Affiliations
Since November 2023, Dr. Louzir has been an independent consultant for "Innovation for Health & Life," working on clinical development, consulting, and other health-related projects. He is also a member of the Lancet Commission on Global Health Threats (since 2022) and the WHO Advisory Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (since 2020). Additionally, he served as an administrator of the Sidi Thabet Technopole from 2008 to 2023.
Education and Background
Dr. Louzir graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Tunis (1977-1986) and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Pasteur Institute in Paris (1986-1988). He directed the Pasteur Institute in Tunis from 2007 to 2023.
