Tunisia Repays Significant Portion of Public Debt
The Minister of Finance, Michket Slama Khaldi, announced on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, that Tunisia has repaid 19,532 million dinars (Mtnd) of its public debt this year. This includes:
- 8,725 Mtnd of external debt
- 10,808 Mtnd of internal debt
Of this amount, 14,861 Mtnd concerns the repayment of the principal and 4,671 Mtnd concerns interest. These figures were communicated during a joint session of the finance and budget commissions, dedicated to monitoring the execution of the 2025 budget. According to the minister, the budget realization rate reaches 79.1% compared to forecasts.
This clarification comes after a recent controversy surrounding the repayment of external debt, which had been presented by some media outlets as exceeding 100%, a claim that several economists had deemed inaccurate.
