Council of Ministers Approves Decrees to Support Farmers Affected by Drought and Other Key Projects

The Council of Ministers has approved two decree projects aimed at supporting farmers affected by the 2023/2024 agricultural season drought.

The first decree recognizes the existence of a natural disaster and triggers the intervention of the agricultural damage compensation fund. The second decree identifies the main agricultural areas affected by this drought. These measures aim to help farmers cope with the consequences of damage caused by this climate phenomenon.

Among the other approved decree projects, the creation of a management unit stands out. This unit will be responsible for monitoring and equipping health projects funded by foreign donations and loans. It will improve the implementation of health projects, such as the King Salman University Hospital in Kairouan, and develop hospital services in inland regions.

The Council also validated a decree amending the 1973 text on the organization of the tourist guide profession. This decree will allow graduates of vocational training and higher education who have successfully completed their basic training as tourist guides to obtain a professional card. This measure aims to improve the quality of tourist and cultural services and offer new opportunities to young people.

Finally, Council members heard a report from the Minister of Economy and Planning on the preparations for the 2024 general population and housing census. This operation, which represents the largest statistical initiative of the state, will have a significant impact on the country's future social and economic policies.
