Financial Considerations for Expats: Vietnam Tops the List
One of the key factors to consider when deciding to expatriate to a new country is personal financial situation.
According to InterNations' "Personal Finance Index", Vietnam is the most affordable country in the world for expats in 2024, ranking first out of 53 destinations in terms of personal finances.
The index reveals that more than four out of five expats (86%) evaluate the cost of living favorably, and half (50%) consider it very good (compared to a global average of 40% and 12%, respectively).
In fact, more than two-thirds (68%) believe that their household's disposable income is more than sufficient to live a comfortable life (compared to 41% globally).
"People are very friendly and the cost of living is very low," says an American expat in Vietnam.
Apart from Vietnam, here is the top 10 ranking of the most affordable countries for expats:

- Philippines
- India
- Mexico
- Thailand
- Brazil
- China
On the other hand, some countries have dropped in the rankings, such as Finland, which lost 22 places in the personal finance index to rank second-to-last in 2024.
