New Property Tax Regulations for Tunisians Starting July 1, 2024

As of July 1, 2024, Tunisians will be required to declare their real estate assets. This applies to properties with a value exceeding 3 million dinars, including those held for minor children. The tax rate is set at 0.5% and excludes primary residences and professional assets used for business purposes. However, properties rented to third parties are subject to taxation, according to Fatiha Gharbi, Director General of Taxes, on Express FM.

This fiscal regime applies to properties in Tunisia, whether held locally or abroad by Tunisian residents. Despite the declarative nature of the system, few voluntary declarations have been made, leading to anticipated correction notices this year.
