2026 Budget Law: Significant Allocation for Social Housing Program

The 2026 budget law has dedicated substantial funds to continue the specific social housing program, aiming to address the need for decent housing for low-income social categories.

Main Axes for Next Year

The main focuses for the upcoming year are:

  • Eradication of precarious housing: replacing them with new housing units for an amount of 246.5 billion Tunisian dinars (Mtnd). This intervention is scheduled to benefit 11,770 recipients.
  • Construction of social housing: building individual and collective social housing units, as well as developing social plots for certain social categories. Approximately 13,400 units out of the 20,000 planned are expected, with a total updated cost of 1,093.5 Mtnd.

Project Phases

The project consists of two phases:

  1. First phase: launching the construction of 8,400 social housing units and plots.
  2. Second phase: preparing studies, land regularization, and topographic and urban studies necessary for the construction of approximately 5,000 social housing units, with a cost of around 505.5 Mtnd, funded by the Saudi Development Fund.

Expected Impact

If this offer is implemented on time, it will help partially absorb the high demand for this type of construction. With exorbitant prices applied by real estate developers or individuals, social housing is becoming a refuge for an increasing number of households.

Job Creation and Economic Benefits

Additionally, the project will create jobs in the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of housing, generating significant activity for construction companies, architects, artisans, and material suppliers. Ultimately, a thriving construction sector has a positive impact on the overall economy.
