Tunisian Dates Maintain Their Luster on Foreign Markets
Despite a slight decline in the 2024/2025 campaign, Tunisian dates continue to shine on international markets. According to figures from the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), exports totaled 132,100 tons with a value of 841 million dinars during the first eleven months, representing a 6% decrease in volume and a 3.8% decrease in value compared to the previous season.
Resilience of Tunisian Dates
This decline, however, has not hindered the evolution of prices. As of August 2025, the average price of a kilogram of Tunisian dates was 6.37 dinars, up from 6.22 dinars last year, marking a 2.4% increase. This growth illustrates the resilience of this iconic product of national agriculture.
Key Export Markets
Italy has confirmed its position as the leading customer in August 2025, accounting for 18.4% of exports. Germany (11.2%) and Spain (9.7%) complete the top three, demonstrating the European anchorage of this market.
Organic Dates: A Growing Trend
The dynamics of organic dates are even more pronounced. With 8,322.8 tons exported for a value of 73.2 million dinars, they now represent 6.3% of total volumes and 8.7% of total value. The average price of organic dates, at 8.80 dinars per kilogram, far exceeds that of conventional dates, confirming their premium positioning.
European Demand for Organic Dates
Germany has emerged as the leading destination for Tunisian organic dates, receiving 31% of volumes, followed by Belgium (14%) and the Netherlands (11%). This breakthrough reflects the growing appetite of European consumers for products that combine quality and authenticity.
