Human-Centered Tourism: Dar Ben Gacem Shines in International Spotlight
In a sector often driven by profit, some structures choose to put human values and impact at the heart of their economic model. This is the case of Dar Ben Gacem, a guesthouse nestled in the medina of Tunis, which has just been distinguished in the international directory of the École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), realized in collaboration with Ashoka, dedicated to social entrepreneurship in tourism and hospitality.
This ranking highlights establishments, restaurants, and travel services that create both economic and social value through business strategies.
Founded by Leila Ben-Gacem, the Tunisian guesthouse stands out for its commitment to preserving cultural heritage, supporting local craftsmanship, and involving medina residents in a sustainable economic dynamic. More than just a place to stay, Dar Ben Gacem is a societal project rooted in its territory.
Among the other selected projects worldwide, we find:
- Albergo Etico in Italy, which employs people with disabilities,
- Gastromotiva in Brazil, engaged in culinary training for disadvantaged populations,
- La Tablée des Chefs in Canada, fighting against food insecurity,
- or Mejdi Tours in the United States, promoting travel that fosters peace and intercultural dialogue.
Dar Ben Gacem is the only Tunisian initiative present in this directory, proving that a locally anchored project can shine on an international scale when it combines authenticity, social responsibility, and excellence in hospitality.
