Inauguration of New Textile Factory in Senegal
A Boost to the Local Economy and Textile Industry
The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, inaugurated a new textile factory on June 20th in Diamniadio, near Dakar, backed by the Turkish group AVCI Global Industrie. With an investment of 6 billion CFA francs, equivalent to approximately $10.4 million, the project is expected to generate nearly 200 direct jobs, primarily for young people and women.
Location and Specialization
The factory, located within the Diamniadio Special Economic Zone, specializes in the production of clothing and underwear for both the local and regional markets. The Senegalese authorities see this as an opportunity to revive the textile industry, which has lost importance over the decades.
Objectives and Impact
Beyond job creation, the goal is to promote the local transformation of Senegalese cotton. Currently, most of the fiber produced in the country is still exported in its raw state. With this new unit, Dakar hopes to develop more added value on its territory and reduce its dependence on imports of finished textile products.
Partnership and Integration
The project is part of a partnership signed in 2025 between the Ministry of Industry, the Agency for the Development and Promotion of Industrial Sites (APROSI), and AVCI Global Industrie. The stated objective is to gradually build an integrated value chain, from cotton to clothing production. This initiative aims to strengthen the local textile industry and contribute to the country's economic growth.
