AI-Driven Education: Coursera CEO Unveils Innovative Solutions
Today, Coursera CEO Jeff Maggioncalda held a press conference to discuss the enriching perspectives on online education via Artificial Intelligence (AI). He highlighted the rapidly growing impact of AI on education, emphasizing the speed of progress in this field.
Maggioncalda explained that although Coursera hasn't developed its own AI model, the platform has integrated the Coach tool, which is based on Google's advanced Gemini Pro model. This approach allows Coach to continuously improve at the pace of Google and other tech giants, such as OpenAI, AWS, or Meta.
According to him, the next version of GPT, expected in the coming months, will bring even more capabilities to Coach, which has already analyzed over one million student assignments, including texts, images, and soon videos.
In parallel, the CEO presented the Generative AI Academy, an initiative aimed at democratizing access to generative AI through several programs. The first part focuses on a general introduction, explaining how AI works, its potential benefits, and the ethical dilemmas that arise. A second module is specifically designed for directors, helping them understand the impact of AI on business management. Finally, Coursera offers targeted training by function: for software engineers, data scientists, or marketing teams, each domain sees its practices transformed by AI, whether in visual content creation or data management.
The CEO of Coursera also presented significant innovations that promise to transform online learning. He stated that Coursera, with the help of AI-powered Viva Assisted, enables teachers to create customized courses.
Maggioncalda also addressed the growing concerns of institutions regarding the use of ChatGPT by students, often accused of facilitating cheating. To respond to this, Coursera has developed tools capable of detecting and preventing the inappropriate use of this technology.
Online content translation is also a priority, particularly in countries like Tunisia or Morocco, where mastering French is often essential for finding employment. Coursera offers an innovative translation tool, allowing students to follow courses in French or Arabic.
With this suite of tools, Coursera seems ready to redefine online learning, combining personalization and academic integrity to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving education market.
