Water and Electricity Cuts: President Kaïs Saïed Demands Rapid Resolution
Situation Overview
The frequent water and electricity cuts in several regions of the country were at the center of a meeting chaired by President Kaïs Saïed on Wednesday, July 22. In the face of interruptions that sometimes exceeded 24 hours, the Head of State demanded that these situations cease quickly and that citizens be systematically informed in advance when a cut is inevitable.
Meeting at the Carthage Palace
The Ministers of the Interior, Equipment, and Agriculture, as well as the officials of the STEG, SONEDE, and Civil Protection, met at the Carthage Palace to discuss the situation marked by disruptions to the water and electricity networks, as well as the increase in fires. President Kaïs Saïed stated that he is following the evolution of the situation "hour by hour" across the entire territory. He described the repeated cuts and fires as "abnormal" phenomena.
Operational Priorities
On the operational side, the President emphasized two priorities:
- Reducing the duration of service interruptions to a minimum
- Improving communication with users
He notably called on public operators to warn inhabitants before any scheduled cut and to prioritize hours that limit disruptions for households and economic activities.
