International Tax Cooperation in the Face of a New Global Fiscal Order
On October 23 and 24, 2025, Tunis will host a major event to address the challenges and issues of the current global tax system. The international conference "International Tax Cooperation in the Face of a New Global Fiscal Order," organized by the Tunisian Observatory of the Economy (OTE) and the Laboratory of Constitutional and Administrative Sciences of the Faculty of Law of Tunis, will bring together experts, researchers, and practitioners to discuss recent developments and possible solutions.
The Evolving Tax Landscape
The tax world is undergoing significant changes, driven by globalization, the digitalization of the economy, and increasingly complex tax evasion practices. In this context, international tax cooperation has become a central issue for states, particularly those in the MENA region. Faced with increased tax competition between countries and pressure on their national tax systems, these states are seeking solutions to strengthen their tax revenues while respecting international standards.
Key Initiatives and Discussions
The conference will highlight initiatives such as the OECD's BEPS 2.0 framework, aimed at combating base erosion and profit shifting, as well as ongoing negotiations at the United Nations for the adoption of an international instrument on taxation. The event aims to provide in-depth reflection on how countries, especially those in the MENA region, can strengthen their tax systems in the face of these global challenges while contributing to a more coherent and effective international tax cooperation framework.
Objectives and Expected Outcomes
The objective of this event is to offer a comprehensive analysis of the ways in which countries can reinforce their tax systems and address the challenges posed by the current global fiscal order. By bringing together experts and stakeholders from around the world, the conference seeks to contribute to a more effective and coordinated international tax cooperation framework, ultimately benefiting countries in the MENA region and beyond.
