Economic Control Operations Reveal Increase in Economic Offenses during Ramadan 2025

The economic control operations conducted by the Ministry of Commerce during the first four days of Ramadan 2025 have revealed a surge in economic offenses. According to the official statement released on March 4, 2,745 offenses were recorded, representing a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 2,411 offenses were detected.

The main offenses include:

  • Excessive pricing and speculative practices (930 cases)
  • Lack of transparency in transactions (1,397 cases)
  • Manipulation of subsidies (13 cases)
  • Failure to meet quality and metrology standards (405 cases)

Agricultural and fishery products were the most affected, with 1,666 offenses reported, followed by general foodstuffs (848 cases), bakeries, restaurants, and cafes (174 cases), and various industrial products (57 cases).

Meanwhile, the number of complaints filed on the Ministry's hotline decreased, from 63 in 2024 to 39 this year. This trend could indicate either an improvement in the authorities' responsiveness or a decline in consumer confidence in the reporting system.

The authorities are continuing their efforts to strengthen control and combat fraudulent practices that affect citizens' purchasing power, particularly during this period of high consumption.
