Foreign Workers in Tunisia: Obtaining a Work Permit
Foreign workers wishing to exercise a professional activity in Tunisia must contact the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training. This is where they must obtain a work certificate certifying their employment before they can apply for a work permit, which is essential for legal employment in the country.
The work permit allows foreigners to exercise a professional activity, but it comes with certain conditions. It is generally issued for a specific job and with a designated employer, which limits professional mobility. The validity period of the permit often depends on the duration of the employment contract. In the event of a job change or change in status, a new application must be submitted to the competent ministry.
Holders of a work permit must respect Tunisian labor laws and cannot automatically bring their family to Tunisia, except with special authorization. Once the permit is obtained, workers can proceed with applying for their residence card.
