The "Labes" Card: A New Electronic Health Card Launched by the Cnam

The "Labes" card is a new electronic health card launched by the Cnam in 2021, aiming to definitively replace the paper card used by affiliates. It will provide simplified access to health services through an automatic reader and offer insured individuals the possibility to check their reimbursement ceiling directly on a digital platform. The security of users' personal data will be guaranteed, and the card will contribute to better controlling citizens' health expenses.

Distribution and Activation

The card will be delivered directly to taxpayers' homes. If you are not at home at the time of delivery, the postman will leave the card at the nearest post office. To identify the post office, dial 1017 followed by your national identity card number. Once the card is valid, the affiliate will be informed.

Current Status and Future Plans

Currently, around 1.5 to 1.7 million affiliates have not yet received their card, but efforts are being made to accelerate its distribution. Training sessions will be organized in public hospitals to help healthcare professionals adopt this new technology, and an information campaign will be launched to encourage affiliates to retrieve their card. All public hospital structures will be equipped with the digital platform enabling the use of the "Labes" card.

Card Validity and Benefits

The "Labes" card will be valid for 15 years, with automatic renewal, avoiding the need for frequent updates as was the case with the paper card. Although the production of this card is more expensive, the Cnam considers that the transition to digitalization is necessary, and that the long-term savings will compensate for the initial investment. A partnership has been signed with La Poste Tunisienne to ensure the distribution of the cards, and around 2 million cards have already been delivered.
