Tunisia Ranks 10th Happiest Country in Africa in 2026
According to the World Happiness Report 2026, Tunisia has been ranked the 10th happiest country in Africa. Mauritius dominates the ranking, retaining its first place position.

Origin of the Report
The report was published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, in collaboration with Gallup and the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. It covers 147 countries, including 41 African nations.
Evaluation Method
Happiness is not an abstract concept, as it is based on the Gallup World Poll and socio-economic indicators. Inhabitants rate their lives on a scale of 0 to 10, using the Cantril scale. The six key criteria are:
- GDP per capita: wealth and purchasing power
- Healthy life expectancy: quality of care
- Social support: help from loved ones
- Freedom to make life choices
- Generosity: acts of solidarity
- Perception of corruption: institutional trust
Each country uses 1,000 annual responses, providing a reliable average.
