The Mo Ibrahim Foundation's Latest Ranking: Tunisia Leads the Way in Education Quality in Africa
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation's recent ranking, which evaluates the best educational systems in Africa, places Tunisia at the top, solidifying its position as a leader in education quality.
Ten African countries have distinguished themselves with high scores, demonstrating educational systems that are close to international standards. Following Tunisia, Ghana, Namibia, Mauritius, Algeria, Cape Verde, Morocco, South Africa, Eswatini, and Kenya complete the top 10.
This ranking highlights that beyond financial means, a strong political will and effective educational strategy have enabled these countries to rise to the top. Tunisia, in particular, has successfully implemented reforms to improve access to quality education and meet international requirements.
However, the situation contrasts with that of other countries like Benin, where, despite efforts, the lack of optimal conditions in education remains a major obstacle. According to UNESCO analyses, low-income countries need to bridge an annual funding gap of $97 billion to hope to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 2030.
