President Kais Saied Accelerates Aghlabide Medical City Project
President of the Republic, Kais Saied, has expressed his desire to accelerate the Aghlabide Medical City project, which benefits from a legal framework regulated by Decree No. 2024-500 of October 24, 2024.
Creation of "Aghlabide Medical City of Kairouan" Company
Minister of Equipment and Housing, Mrs. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzeri, announced on Monday, December 23, the creation of the "Aghlabide Medical City of Kairouan" company, under the supervision of the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, and the appointment of Riyadh Hentati as CEO of the company.
Company's Objectives
The company's main objective is to examine and validate studies and development plans, infrastructure, and various components of the project, as well as their development.
Project Overview
The Aghlabide Medical City project aims to establish multidisciplinary hospital structures, higher education institutions, and will span over an area of 550 hectares in the Kairouan governorate, with 200 hectares to be built. The project is expected to create 42,000 jobs.
Financing
To finance this ambitious project, a call for funding will be made. It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia has already contributed $85 million, and China has expressed its intention to provide a donation.
Next Steps
The decree does not specify the terms and measures for the implementation of the project or whether there will be a new call for tenders to carry out the work, and according to what specifications. Meanwhile, Mr. Riyadh Hentati presented the project "Aghlabide Medical City" on Monday, December 23, highlighting the role of the company in making it a reality.
