Cinémana Festival 2024: Celebrating Tunisian Short Films and Cinematic Talent

From September 3 to 5, the City of Sciences in Tunis hosted the 4th edition of the Cinémana short film festival, organized by the Alliance Française de Tunis, in partnership with the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and the Government of the Principality of Monaco.

Held annually since 2021, the festival aims to inspire and educate the next generation of Tunisian filmmakers, focusing on training in the field of cinema, particularly in short films.

As with each edition, Cinémana revolved around three main axes:

Training

Cinémana offers free workshops accessible to young people under 30. This year's workshops covered three areas: photography and image capture, directing, and image and sound editing. For the first time, the festival offered two levels for each of the three workshops: initiation and advanced training.

Competition and Screenings

Every year, Cinémana provides a unique opportunity to discover the talent of young Tunisian filmmakers through its competition. The winning films receive a prize, with awards ranging up to 2000 DT. This year, a new prize, the "Monaco Prize for Best Film on the Environment and SDGs," was added.

Cinémana Encounters

The "Cinémana Encounters" enrich the festival with masterclasses led by cinema experts.

Here is the list of prizes awarded this year:

  • Best Image Award: awarded to "Miroir" by Beya Chikhi
  • Best Screenplay Award: awarded to "Un jour méditerranéen" by Wajdi Jhimi
