National Identity Card and Biometric Passport: A Major Decision Taken
During a ministerial meeting held yesterday, April 22, under the chairmanship of Head of Government Ahmed Hachani, a crucial decision was made: to officially launch the practical procedures for implementing the national identity card and biometric passport.
The goal is to start using these biometric documents effectively in the first half of 2025. This initiative is part of the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization, which urges all countries to adopt these documents by 2026.
This decision follows an in-depth analysis of the different proposals and scenarios for the technical and logistical process of issuing biometric documents. This analysis was conducted by a steering committee composed of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Communication Technologies, and the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
