Transavia Announces Flight Cancellations for May and June
The airline company Transavia has announced the cancellation of flights for the next two months (May and June). This decision was confirmed at the end of April 2026 by the subsidiary of the Air France-KLM group. The reason for this decision is the significant increase in the cost of aviation fuel, partly due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Details of the Cancellations
The cancellations are limited but real, affecting less than 2% of the flight schedule for the May-June period, according to the company. Certain routes, especially less profitable leisure trips, are being targeted to reduce operating costs. For affected passengers, the company will contact them directly via SMS or email. Several options are being offered: free rebooking, voucher, or full refund.
Cause of the Situation
The increase in kerosene prices is heavily impacting the entire aviation industry. Fuel can account for up to 40-45% of a company's costs, and its price has risen sharply due to disruptions in the global oil markets. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage for oil transportation, has reduced supply and driven up prices. This phenomenon is not unique to Transavia, as several airlines worldwide are reducing their flights or increasing their rates, which could impact the summer tourist season and ticket prices.
