France to Ban Unsolicited Telemarketing Calls in 2026, Threatening Thousands of Jobs in North Africa
In August 2026, France will prohibit unsolicited telemarketing calls. This law, adopted on May 21 by the French Parliament, could disrupt the ecosystem of call centers in North Africa, particularly in Morocco and Tunisia, where thousands of jobs depend on commercial prospecting towards France.
In Morocco, the call center sector employs nearly 100,000, mainly in small specialized structures focused on telemarketing. The new French law is causing great concern among these companies, which fear massive layoffs. Unions are worried about company closures and significant job losses.
Regarding Tunisia, the situation is similar, although the sector is smaller. Approximately 350 call centers employ over 20,000, with a large part working for French clients. The entry into force of the French law could further weaken this sector. Without adaptation, many Tunisian companies could see their activity decrease, threatening thousands of jobs.
To try to anticipate these changes, sector players are thinking of solutions such as creating qualified databases or diversifying activities towards higher-value-added services like technical assistance or customer service.
