Athar Accelerator Celebrates Fifth Cohort of Climate Action Acceleration Program

Athar Accelerator, based in Egypt, has celebrated the graduation of its fifth cohort of the climate action acceleration program, with DFC, a startup focused on creating mobile solar-powered charging stations for electric vehicles, receiving a prize of 150,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $3,000 USD).

Supported by the Finnish Embassy in Cairo and Hivos, and in collaboration with Creativa Innovation Hubs in Upper Egypt, the "Athar Climate Action" acceleration program helps startups tackle major environmental challenges.

The fifth edition of the program concluded with a demo day in Minya, Upper Egypt, earlier this month, where 10 startups from the region presented their solutions, targeting key sectors such as environmentally friendly biopesticides, renewable energy, organic fertilizers, and sustainable furniture.

In addition to the startup presentations, the event also launched the "Green Manifesto", a declaration of principles aimed at supporting underrepresented founders in the green sectors across Upper Egypt and other underserved regions. The manifesto highlights the importance of empowering local entrepreneurs, recognizing startup diversity, and fostering sustainable communities that promote long-term growth and innovation.

"These founders are not only creating solutions to some of our most pressing environmental challenges, but are also laying the foundation for sustainable economic development in Egypt and the wider region. Their success testifies to the growing importance of climate action in the startup ecosystem," said Shoaib Elqady, CEO of Athar Accelerator.
