Mauritania Introduces Electronic Visa System
Mauritania has officially implemented an electronic visa (e-Visa) system, effective January 5, 2025, for citizens of countries requiring a visa to enter its territory. This measure is part of a broader effort to modernize entry procedures and simplify administrative processes for foreign travelers.
Key Features of the e-Visa System
- The e-Visa application must be submitted exclusively online through the official website of the National Agency for Population Registration and Secure Documents (Anrpts), without the need to visit a consulate.
- The Mauritanian e-Visa is available for three different lengths of stay: 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days.
- Applicants can also choose the number of entries they wish to make into the country: single, double, or multiple.
Required Information for e-Visa Application
To obtain an e-Visa, applicants must fill out an online form that includes the following information:
- Name and surname
- Date and place of birth
- Nationality
- Profession
- Email address and phone number
- Purpose of stay (tourism, business, family visit, medical care, culture/sports, or other)
- Date of arrival in Mauritania
- Number of desired entries
- Passport information (number, type, issue date, and expiration date)
Supporting Documents
Applicants must also attach a recent identity photo and a copy of their passport, which must be valid for at least six months. Once the application is processed and approved, the e-Visa is issued via the official portal. The document, which includes a QR code, must be printed and presented to security agents during travel.
Visa Fees
Visa fees are paid upon arrival in Mauritania. The cost of a 30-day e-Visa is approximately 55 euros.
Exemptions
It is worth noting that Tunisian citizens are not required to follow this procedure, as Tunisia has a reciprocal visa waiver agreement with Mauritania. In addition to Tunisia, citizens of the following countries are also exempt from visa requirements to enter Mauritania:
- Algeria
- Burkina Faso
- Côte d'Ivoire
- Gambia
- Guinea-Bissau
- Libya
- Mali
- Niger
- Senegal
- Chad
