Morocco Emerges as Africa's Most Attractive Mining Jurisdiction in 2024
According to the latest ranking published by the Fraser Institute on July 29, Morocco has surpassed Botswana, the 2023 leader, to become the most attractive mining jurisdiction in Africa, ranking 18th globally out of 82 evaluated jurisdictions.
As the top African producer of silver and a major exporter of phosphates, Morocco stands out this year with a significant improvement in its Mining Policy Perception Index (PPI): it gains 49 points, jumping from 80th place globally in 2023 to 28th in 2024.
The country also takes the top spot in Africa in terms of attractive mineral potential for investors, ranking 14th worldwide, ahead of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In West Africa, Ghana dominates the sub-region, followed by Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. A total of 20 African countries feature in this year's ranking.
