Electronic Waste: A Growing Concern for the Environment

Defined as discarded electronic devices such as computers and phones, e-waste can contaminate the environment if not recycled properly.

To address the issue of e-waste, many countries have implemented regulations and recycling programs to encourage proper disposal and recycling of electronic devices. Recycling e-waste helps reduce environmental pollution, conserve resources, and recover precious materials for reuse in the production of new electronic products.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has identified 5 regions that are leading the way in e-waste recycling.

Among these regions is Côte d'Ivoire. In this West African country, people are learning to repair phones and laptops, and recycle other e-waste. A project called "Create lab" teaches people how to strip wires and reuse materials to build technologies such as domestic wind turbines.

The other regions include California, Colombia, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan.
