Response to Inquiry on Canal Closure

In response to a question posed by MP Mohamed Ali Fennira, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries indicated that the closure of the canal near the village of El Khouine, Grombalia delegation, Nabeul governorate, is indeed planned. The project has been included in the tender program for the year 2025, and a site visit will be conducted to precisely measure the area to be secured.

Ongoing Efforts to Secure the Medjerda Canal

The ministry also reported that the Medjerda Canal and Northern Water Supply Company implements an annual program to fence the Medjerda Canal. This program targets the most hazardous areas in the governorates of La Manouba, Tunis, Ben Arous, and Nabeul, covering a total length of 240 km on both sides of the canal. This work is carried out according to a three-year plan, taking into account the most high-risk areas and the available budget each year.

Importance of the Project

This project is crucial to prevent accidents and protect residents living near the canal. The ministry also emphasized that such projects require good coordination between technical services, local authorities, and civil protection to ensure citizen safety and guarantee that work is carried out under suitable conditions.
