Chinese Experts Launch Feasibility Study for Cancer Center in Gabès, Tunisia
A delegation of Chinese experts has begun a feasibility study at the University Hospital of Gabès to establish a cancer center, as part of a Tunisian-Chinese cooperation.
It is worth noting that the oncology center created in 2021 in Gabès, following a decision by President Kais Saied and after an accident at an asphalt factory in the industrial zone, receives an average of 400 patients per year from Gabès, Médenine, Tataouine, and Kébili. However, this infrastructure is insufficient and poorly equipped to provide the necessary care in one of the regions most affected by cancer.
The Chinese project aims not only to expand the existing building but also to strengthen technical equipment, modernize and perfect cancer treatment services, and improve the quality of care provided to patients.
The feasibility study, which was agreed upon a year ago (January 2024), will soon provide a precise estimate of the scope of the work, its cost, and duration. This will be a response to the needs of cancer patients and their families in the region, providing them with better care and comfort.
