Qatar Airways Acquires 49% Stake in RwandAir
Qatar Airways has acquired a significant 49% stake in RwandAir, the Rwandan national airline, with a planned finalization by July 2024, according to several sources, including the Financial Times.
This acquisition, which has been in discussion for nearly five years, will enable RwandAir to significantly expand its operations and fleet. The investment by Qatar Airways will stimulate the Rwandan aviation sector and allow the national airline to serve new destinations and increase its presence on the African continent.
This partnership is part of a broader cooperation strategy between Qatar and Rwanda. In 2019, Qatar Airways had already acquired a 60% stake in a new international airport under construction near Kigali, the Rwandan capital.
Furthermore, the two airlines already operate a codeshare agreement, allowing RwandAir passengers to access Qatar Airways' vast global network.
