Tunisia's Tourism Sector to Receive Boost with New Hotel Openings

The tourism industry is one of the main drivers of economic growth in Tunisia. In this context, four new hotels are set to open soon, as revealed by Anass Boukhris, Regional Commissioner for Tourism in Tunis-North, to the TAP agency. The capital city, Tunis, is preparing to welcome two new four-star hotels between this summer and the beginning of 2025.

The first of these hotels will open its doors this summer on Ghana Street. It will offer 97 rooms and 197 beds, as well as six conference rooms with a total area of 235 m². This new establishment will also contribute to the local economy by creating 95 direct jobs.

The second hotel, located near the "Le Passage" metro station, is expected to welcome its first customers at the beginning of 2025. This ambitious project, worth 14 million dinars, will offer 87 rooms and 194 beds, as well as several conference rooms. The opening of this hotel is expected to generate around 100 direct jobs, marking an important step in the revitalization of the hotel sector in Tunis.

In parallel, the northern suburbs of Tunis are also seeing growth in their tourist infrastructure with two other hotels under construction. One, in Sidi Bou Saïd, will offer 25 beds, while the other, in Gammarth, will offer 81.

Another major project concerns the iconic Hotel du Lac, famous for its inverted pyramid architecture and closed for years. A recent meeting brought together regional officials and the Libyan investor to discuss its future. They agreed to preserve the building's original form and renovate it. The surroundings will also be revitalized with the addition of a shopping center, leisure spaces, and tourist residences, bringing new life to this part of the city.

These developments reflect a clear willingness to strengthen Tunis's attractiveness as a tourist destination. By investing in modern infrastructure and preserving unique architectural heritage, Tunis is positioning itself to welcome a growing number of visitors and stimulate its local economy. Tunisian tourism, after years of challenges, seems to be on the path to a promising resurgence.
