Swedish Automotive Component Group Autoliv to Open State-of-the-Art Factory in Tunisia

The Swedish automotive component group Autoliv is set to take a new step in Tunisia with the imminent opening of a cutting-edge factory integrating advanced Industry 4.0 technologies. Autoliv, which produces nearly seven million steering wheels worldwide every year, including four million in Tunisia, is thus confirming its willingness to strengthen its presence in the country. Already established in El Fahs and Nadhour, the group employs over 4,500 people and occupies a central place in a sector that has become strategic. Recall that in 2023, it had inaugurated its first industrial unit in the El Merja industrial zone, in El Fahs, in the Zaghouan governorate.

New Factory to be a Model of Sustainability

According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, the future site, which will operate using clean energy and use magnesium as its primary material, will be the first of its kind in Africa for the manufacture of automotive steering wheels. It aims to become a model of a "Green Factory," symbolizing the upgrading of the Tunisian automotive component industry.

Government Support for the Project

The Minister reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting the company in its expansion projects, recalling the significant weight of the automotive sector in the national economy: nearly 300 companies, over 120,000 jobs, and exports that exceeded 2.2 billion euros in 2024. With this new smart factory, Tunisia is further confirming its industrial attractiveness and its ability to host cutting-edge technological projects at the heart of global value chains.
