EBRD Boosts Private Sector Financing in Tunisia with €50M Risk-Sharing Expansion & New ESG Fund
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is significantly strengthening its corporate financing framework in Tunisia, injecting fresh capital to accelerate sustainable private sector growth. By scaling up its risk-sharing mechanism with Attijari Bank Tunisia from €20 million to €70 million, the EBRD is unlocking an additional €50 million to support business investments across the country.
In parallel, a dedicated $10 million (approximately €8.6 million) ESG funding envelope has been launched to finance projects aligned with environmental, social, and governance standards. Eligible companies will not only access competitive financing but also qualify for UK-backed grants administered through the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA).
Targeting Sustainable & Inclusive Business Growth
The new ESG facility is specifically designed to help Tunisian enterprises tangibly improve their environmental and social performance. Priority investments include:
- Energy-efficient equipment and systems
- Renewable energy installations
- Waste reduction and circular economy technologies
- Employee training and workplace safety upgrades
- Risk management frameworks and corporate governance improvements
- Gender equality and social inclusion initiatives
By combining debt financing with grant-based support, the program lowers the cost of sustainable transformation for businesses while accelerating Tunisia’s transition toward a greener, more inclusive economy.
EBRD’s Expanding Footprint in Tunisia
This initiative underscores the EBRD’s deepening commitment to Tunisia’s economic development. According to the bank’s official statement, since launching operations in the country, the EBRD has deployed over €3.1 billion across 97 projects, with 66% directed toward the private sector. The expanded financing mechanism and ESG-focused grants position Tunisian companies to better navigate global sustainability standards, attract international investment, and drive long-term competitiveness.
For businesses seeking to leverage these new financing and grant opportunities, eligibility criteria and application guidelines are available through Attijari Bank Tunisia and the EBRD’s official channels.
