Central Bank of Tunisia Revises Credit Rates for Cereal Farmers

The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) has announced a revision of the credit rates for cereal farmers. This decision, communicated in a recent circular, concerns the credit rates and deadlines for wheat, barley, legume, and fodder crops.

According to this circular, which came into effect upon publication, the credit ceiling will now be adjusted based on several criteria, including the size of the farms, expenses to be incurred, and yields achieved during previous agricultural campaigns. This change was officially approved following the opinion of the Compliance Control Committee, dated September 3, 2024, in accordance with Law No. 2016-35 governing the status of the Central Bank of Tunisia.

The revised credit rate schedule sets different amounts depending on the zone and type of crop. For example, for cereal crops (wheat, barley, and legumes), the credit ceiling is 1,395 dinars per hectare for farms in Zone 1 (dry land) and 1,865 dinars for irrigated farms, with a deadline set for August 31. For barley, the amounts vary between 860 dinars for Zone 1 and 315 dinars for Zone 3, with the same deadline. As for fodder crops, the deadline is set for August 31 for winter crops and September 30 for summer crops, with respective credit rates of 1,030 and 1,205 dinars per hectare.

This revision of credit rates aims to better support farmers by taking into account the climatic and economic conditions that influence cereal campaigns.
