Financial Transactions in Tunisia: A Shift towards Electronic Payments
In the first quarter of 2024, a significant number of 90,000 checks, with a total value of 733 million dinars, were refused in financial transactions.
Electronic Transactions Take the Lead
Electronic transactions, including wire transfers and direct debits, took the top spot with significant volumes of 8.32 million and 1.5 million, respectively. These transactions represent 51% and 9% of all financial operations.
Checks Fall to Third Place
Checks took third place in terms of volume, representing only 37% of all transactions. During this first quarter, 6.12 million checks were issued for a total amount of 30.9 billion dinars, marking a 3.41% decrease compared to the previous period, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
