Water Reserves in Tunisia: A 35.5% Filling Rate as of March 21

According to the latest data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI) on Friday, the filling rate of Tunisian dams stood at 35.5% as of March 21.

Water Reserves Down 3.6%

Water reserves have decreased by 3.6%, reaching 839,871 million cubic meters compared to 871,488 million cubic meters on the same date last year. The decline is even more pronounced when compared to the average of the last three years, with a drop of 8%.

Regional Breakdown

  • Northern Dams: A filling rate of 40.8%, with total reserves of 756,376 million cubic meters, accounting for 90% of the country's stored resources. The Sidi Barrak dam alone concentrates 25% of the country's hydraulic reserves, with a filling rate of 73%.
  • Central and Cap-Bon Dams: Filling rates of 13.8% and 34.6%, respectively.

Water Inflows

According to ONAGRI, water inflows for the entire season (from September 1, 2024, to March 20, 2025) amount to 665,088 million cubic meters, a 52% decrease compared to the average of the period.

Daily Water Inflows and Consumption

On March 21, water inflows into the dams reached 1,120 million cubic meters, almost exclusively from the northern dams. On the same day, total consumption of reserves stood at 1,358 million cubic meters.
