General Strike in the Banking and Financial Sector

The General Federation of Banks and Financial Institutions, affiliated with the UGTT, has announced a three-day sectoral general strike on June 23, 24, and 25, 2026, in all banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies in the country.

Reasons for the Strike

In a statement published on Sunday, the federation explained its decision due to the failure of attempts to resume negotiations with the Banking and Financial Council and the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies. It accuses the employers' organizations of refusing dialogue and claims related to salary increases for the year 2025.

Denunciation of Non-Compliance with Labor Law

The union also denounces the refusal to apply the provisions of paragraph 2 of article 412 of law No. 41 of 2024, published in the Official Journal, concerning employees in the banking sector. According to the statement, affected employees are called upon not to report to work during the three days of the strike, whether at headquarters, central offices, agencies, branches, or any other site related to the affected establishments.

Call to Action

The federation has also called on sector employees to participate in a rally scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in front of the UGTT headquarters, Mohamed Ali Square in Tunis. Members from the regions are invited to gather in front of the regional labor union headquarters.

Potential Disruptions

This strike could lead to disruptions in several banking and financial services, including operations performed at branches, administrative procedures related to loans, bank accounts, and certain insurance services.
