Tunisian Date Exports Down 6.4% in Volume and 4.4% in Value in the First Eight Months of the 2024/2025 Campaign
According to a report published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri), Tunisian date exports have declined by 6.4% in volume and 4.4% in value during the first eight months of the 2024/2025 campaign, reaching 115,400 tons with a total value of 735.2 million dinars.
Despite this decline, the average export price has increased, standing at 6.37 dinars per kilogram as of the end of May 2025, compared to 6.24 dinars the previous year, representing a 2.1% growth. This suggests that the market remains promising, but is facing a contraction in demand or a decrease in product availability.
Italy has emerged as the top destination for Tunisian dates in May 2025, absorbing 14.5% of exported volumes. It is followed by Germany (10.6%) and Spain (10.4%), confirming the key role of the European market.
Regarding organic dates, Tunisia has exported 6,202.2 tons with a value of 56 million dinars during the same period. These volumes represent 5.4% of total date exports in quantity and 7.6% in value, with a significantly higher average price: 9.03 dinars per kilogram. Germany stands out as the main client, accounting for 31% of imported quantities, followed by the Netherlands (12%) and France (10%).
These figures highlight the growing potential of the organic segment, which benefits from higher prices and sustained demand in Northern European countries. However, the overall downward trend calls for increased vigilance regarding the competitiveness of Tunisia's offer on international markets.
