Cybercriminals Target Tunisian Users Again

The National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCS) is warning against a phishing campaign spreading via SMS, aiming to steal banking information from victims by impersonating services related to traffic offenses.

How the Scam Works

According to the ANCS, victims receive messages from foreign numbers alerting them to an unpaid traffic fine. The SMS invites them to click on a link presented as a way to view or pay the fine. In reality, this link redirects to a fake website designed to collect banking data and other sensitive information.

Identifying Legitimate Platforms

The agency reminds users that official Tunisian administration platforms exclusively use the .tn domain name. Any link redirecting to a different address should be considered with great caution, especially when received via SMS or from a foreign number.

Part of a Global Trend

This new campaign is part of a global trend where cybercriminals exploit the sense of urgency - in this case, the fear of a traffic sanction - to prompt internet users to act quickly without verifying the legitimacy of the message.
