Schengen Visa Fees to Increase by 12% Starting June 11

The European Commission has applied a new policy starting today, June 11, which increases the fees for short-stay Schengen visas (type C) by 12%. "The new Schengen visa fees will be €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12." However, this increase is not universal. In reality, the costs of visas will remain unchanged for nationals of countries that have concluded visa facilitation agreements with the EU.

Exceptions to the Fee Increase

Nationals of countries that have concluded visa facilitation agreements with the EU will not be affected by the new Schengen visa fee modifications. The agreed-upon fees in these agreements are fixed (€35), regardless of any current or future increases. These countries include:

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus (except for regime officials, who are exempt from facilitations)
  • Cape Verde

Additional Exceptions

Nationals of 8 countries that have concluded a visa-free entry agreement with the EU must pay a €35 visa fee to enter the EU. They are not concerned by this increase. However, these nationals must obtain a visa because they do not possess a biometric passport, a necessary condition to benefit from the visa exemption provided by the agreement:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Georgia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Ukraine
