Strengthening the Link between the Diaspora and Development in Africa
During the workshop "Strengthening the Link between the Diaspora and Development in Africa" held on November 13, 2024, in Tunis, Tarek Bouhlel, Director of African Cooperation at the Ministry of Economy, announced the integration of remittances from the Tunisian diaspora into the next national development plan (2025-2030). These transfers, which reached $2.7 billion in 2023 and increased by 3% to reach 4.49 billion dinars in July 2024, are now considered a major economic lever for Tunisia. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) emphasized the importance of better institutional coordination to fully exploit this financial contribution. The ECA's program aims to include the diaspora in development strategies, contributing to the objectives of the Global Compact on Migration and the 2030 and 2063 agendas.
