Insurance Fraud in Tunisia: A Growing Concern
Hatem Amira, General Director of the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA), spoke on Mosaïque FM about the problems of insurance fraud in Tunisia, highlighting the increasing danger it poses.
Alarming Figures
The numbers reveal that fraud accounts for between 10% and 15% of indemnities paid out, amounting to between 80 and 85 million Tunisian dinars (Mtnd). This money goes directly to fraudsters, causing significant harm to the sector.
Organized Fraud Rings
Fraudsters often work in organized groups, submitting the same file to multiple insurance companies with minor modifications to avoid detection. They may, for example, swap car parts or invent accidents. These practices not only affect insurance companies but also the state, hindering the country's economic growth.
Fighting Fraud: A New Agency
To combat this issue, a new agency has been created, dubbed the Anti-Fraud Agency (Alfa). It will monitor the 24 insurance companies in Tunisia and conduct financial studies and analyses to detect and prevent fraud.
A Crucial Battle
"The stakes are high," emphasized Hatem Amira. It is essential to intensify efforts to dismantle fraudulent networks and protect the insurance sector and the Tunisian economy.
