Pilot Project Aims to Reduce Water Consumption in Tunisian Textile Industry
A pilot project launched in 10 Tunisian textile companies aims to reduce water consumption by 230,000 cubic meters per year. The project, called AReset, was developed with the contribution of three technical centers, Cettex, CITET, and BPEH, and is funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation.
Water Conservation in Denim Production
Water is typically used in large quantities in the production and dyeing of denim fabric, a key component of jeans. The two-year project, which ran from 2022 to 2024, aims to promote innovation in the textile sector and encourage young talent to get involved and share their expertise.
Supporting SMEs in Crisis Management
In addition to its support for the AReset project, Cettex has also accompanied 30 Tunisian SMEs in strengthening their crisis management capacities as part of the "Crisis Management Support for SMEs in Tunisia" program. This program has enabled beneficiary companies to achieve significant results in terms of internal organization, team communication, and risk reduction. It has also helped them adopt more effective practices, generating significant gains in production and resource savings.
The Importance of the Textile Sector in Tunisia
Despite a slight decline in recent years, the textile and clothing sector remains a mainstay of Tunisia's manufacturing industry, providing 176,464 jobs and comprising 1,822 companies across the country. The sector offers several advantages, including geographical proximity to the European market, high-quality production, and rapid delivery times. With this new water-saving technique, the positive impacts on the textile sector, particularly denim production, are expected to be significant.
