WhatsApp Turns a New Page
The WhatsApp messaging application is about to enter a new era. After seven years at its helm, Will Cathcart is stepping down as director of the platform, announced Mark Zuckerberg in a post on Facebook.
A Phase of Strong Growth
At the helm of WhatsApp since 2019, Will Cathcart oversaw a period of strong growth for the application, which now claims over three billion users worldwide. In his message, Mark Zuckerberg praised the role played by the leader in developing the service and defending user privacy, a topic that has become central to the platform in recent years.
New Responsibilities within Meta
Despite leaving WhatsApp, Will Cathcart is not leaving the Meta group. He will take on new responsibilities within the company, where he will be responsible for developing new products from scratch, according to Mark Zuckerberg's indications.
A New Leader for WhatsApp
To succeed him, Meta has chosen Kunal Shah, an Indian entrepreneur known for founding and developing the Indian fintech company CRED. He will join Meta to take the reins of WhatsApp, now considered the largest messaging application in the world.
A "Builder" Mentality
Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that Kunal Shah brings a "builder" mentality as well as an international vision that should contribute to supporting the next phase of WhatsApp's development. The Meta founder also stated his desire to continue efforts to strengthen services for the billions of users of the application as well as the millions of businesses that use it daily.
