Amazon to Invest $9 Billion in Singapore's Cloud Computing Infrastructure
Amazon announced today that it will invest $9 billion in Singapore over the next four years to develop its cloud computing capabilities in the city. This announcement comes after its competitor Microsoft unveiled investments of several billion dollars in the same sectors in Southeast Asia last week, as companies seek to capitalize on the growing demand in the region.
Amazon stated that this amount doubles its investment in the Asian country, and will enable it to respond to the growing demand for cloud services and adopt artificial intelligence.
Priscilla Chong, National Director of Singapore at Amazon Web Services, said that AWS is reinforcing its investments in its cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 to meet customer demand and contribute to strengthening Singapore's status as a regional hub for innovation.
Amazon announced that its investment will support approximately 12,000 jobs in Singaporean businesses annually.
