Royal Air Maroc to Acquire 200 Aircraft to Boost Tourism in Morocco

The acquisition of 200 aircraft by Royal Air Maroc is part of the implementation of the strategic roadmap for the tourism sector for the period 2023-2026. The objective of this roadmap, supported by the call for tenders, is to reach 17.5 million tourists, generate $12 billion in revenue, and create 200,000 additional direct and indirect jobs in the tourism sector by 2026.

Currently, Royal Air Maroc is evaluating offers from aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer, and plans to place an order for nearly 200 aircraft by next September. According to Bloomberg, "about two-thirds of the aircraft the airline plans to order will be narrow-body jets, with the rest being long-haul wide-body aircraft with no more than 350 seats."

The CEO of the Moroccan national airline, Abdelhamid Addou, also stated that the carrier is seeking 30 regional jet aircraft as part of a larger narrow-body purchase. "Regardless of the order, not all aircraft will arrive on time to meet growing demand, and the company will fill the gap with leased aircraft," he added.
