Tunisia Ranks Second in Africa in AI Preparedness Index
According to the "AI Preparedness Index" published in 2024 by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tunisia scores 0.47, ranking second in Africa, just behind South Africa with a score of 0.50. At the Maghreb level, Tunisia far surpasses Libya and Mauritania, which have scores of 0.24 and 0.23, respectively.
This index evaluates countries' ability to adopt artificial intelligence.
At the Arab level, Tunisia also positions itself among the leaders, occupying the 5th place. It is preceded by the United Arab Emirates (0.63), Saudi Arabia (0.58), Oman and Qatar (0.53), and Bahrain (0.52). Note that Kuwait, with a score of 0.46, is slightly below Tunisia's score.
The IMF highlights that, in most scenarios, AI risks exacerbating global inequalities, a worrying trend that policymakers can, however, strive to prevent. AI can also complement workers' skills, improve productivity, and expand opportunities. In advanced economies, for example, around 30% of jobs could benefit from AI integration.
