Adobe to Integrate AI-Powered Image Generation Tool into Photoshop

Adobe plans to integrate a fully AI-powered image generation tool into its Photoshop software later this year. The competition is heating up for Adobe as startups like OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, Midjourney, and Stability AI offer similar image generation services from textual descriptions.

Adobe Develops its Own AI Image Generation System

Adobe is developing its own AI image generation system, called Firefly, trained on data that Adobe owns the rights to, to avoid copyright infringement claims. During a conference in London, the company announced that complete image generation would be available later this year, based on a new AI system called Firefly Image 3.

Accelerating Professional Workflow

Adobe is focusing primarily on accelerating the workflow of professionals using its software. The new image generation tool will be able to use an image uploaded by the user as a reference for the overall composition of an image. For example, a designer can quickly sketch a scene on a paper napkin, take a photo with their smartphone, and then ask Photoshop to generate fully detailed images in different styles, explains Ely Greenfield, Director of Technology for Digital Media at Adobe.

Saving Time with AI-Powered Image Generation

According to Greenfield, this new feature allows Photoshop users to save time by avoiding the need to precisely describe every detail of their image. Instead, the image generation tool uses a reference image uploaded by the user to create fully detailed images in different styles.
