Completion of Bouhertma Dam Elevation Works in Jendouba Governorate
The elevation works of the Bouhertma dam, located in the Jendouba governorate, have been completed, with an investment of 91 million dinars, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries published on Thursday, May 16.
These works will enable the dam to store an additional 33 million cubic meters of water, bringing its total capacity to 145 million cubic meters.
The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Abdelmonem Belati, highlighted the importance of this project in the fight against climate change and food security. Compared to the high costs of desalination plants, the Bouhertma dam project remains economically advantageous.
Repairs on the water supply canal of the Barbra dam will begin soon, with costs exceeding 41 million dinars. To date, the Bouhertma dam has already stored 70 million cubic meters of water, underscoring its crucial role in the country's water resource management.
