General Census of Population and Housing 2024

The General Census of Population and Housing 2024 reveals that the working-age population has reached 9,239,200 individuals, compared to 8,312,200 in 2014. Over the past decade, this represents an increase of 927,000 individuals. This evolution follows the pace of overall demographic growth, but with an increasingly significant weight. In 1956, the working-age population accounted for only 51.4% of the total Tunisian population. In 2024, this proportion has risen to 77.2%. On the other hand, according to the 19th CIST, the labor force (active population) refers to all individuals aged 15 and over who are employed or unemployed. As of November 2024, this population stands at 4,448,100 individuals, representing 48.1% of the working-age population.
